What makes Pumaboards different from most pedalboards?
The basic designs of Pumaboards are not rocket science, but they offer an array of advantages and options. The simple wedge shape of the Pumaboard Classic may be appealing as it tends to allow your foot to be more comfortable, not forcing you to reach with your toes to hit the second row of pedals. This difference is even more noticeable if you play sitting down. On the other hand, the Pumaboard Low Rider is ideal for anyone who wants to save space and does not need to mount a power supply underneath. The Pumaboard Classic allows for this kind of mounting — you can mount a power supply such as the Pedal Power II underneath the board (see a photo of this!).
Also with a Pumaboard Classic, it is possible to drill one hole in the top for running all wires through. If you wanted to be even more elaborate, you could drill multiple holes to route all the cables underneath to come up by the individual pedals. If you choose to do this and later you change your pedals around enough that your board looks like Swiss cheese — fear not. The top board is simply a piece of 5/8" plywood that can be easily removed and replaced.
What are my customization options with a Pumaboard?
You can get your Pumaboard a number of ways after deciding on the size of the board (I can build it any size you'd like). Everything is detailed on the options page, including prices.
How much is a Pumaboard, and which sizes are available?
The cost of each Pumaboard is determined by its style (Classic or Low Rider), size, and other additions that cost extra. All boards are 15 inches deep. They range from 18 to 36 inches long (a full chart, with prices, is available on the options page). But custom sizes are an option, too — just email me.
How deep and tall are Pumaboards?
All Pumaboards are 15 inches deep. The Pumaboard Classic is 4 1/8 inches tall in the front and 2 inches tall in the back. The Pumaboard Low Rider is 2 inches tall all the way around. This is including the rubber feet.
Can I get a case for my Pumaboard?
Yes! I offer soft cases made by Studio Slips for every size of board. Pricing is detailed on the options page.
Can you wire my Pumaboard for me?
I'm happy to put sockets and outlets anywhere in your board that the design will allow, but I'm not in the position to do wiring. I'm not an electrician, and I don't want to risk messing up something like that, especially because wiring is usually very specialized. Feel free to do the wiring yourself.
How long will it take to get my Pumaboard?
Due to the unpredictable number of orders at any one time, I will have to give you an estimate of the time required to build and send your board when you are ready to order.
What if I'm not satisfied with my Pumaboard?
You can send it back to me, and I will give you a full refund.
Can I get a Tolex top on my board?
Man, I really wanted to make Tolex tops work, but there just seems to be no way of getting a strong enough bond with the Tolex. The amount of pull needed to separate good velcro will pull the Tolex up from the board, and we can't have that. Now, if you plan on hard mounting your pedals with screws, then of course Tolex would work. But for now, I'm only offering two material options for a top: Velcro Loop Fabric or Formica.
Just who is this Puma dude anyway? A comic book hero? A crime-fighting, caped crusader? Another wannabe rock star?
Naaah... nothing like that. Pumaman is a nickname that was given to me a long time ago — even before the internet — and it stuck. I'm just a guy from Oregon who loves guitars. I have reached a point in my life where I really want to escape working for "the man." So I'm trying to do something I enjoy. Novel idea, isn't it?
